Mānawatia a Matariki – we welcome Matariki!

Matariki: an opportunity for leadership

One of the questions we often ask in our leadership development programmes is ‘what is calling for your leadership’? Mātariki will be celebrated in a public holiday for the first time in our history on 22 June next year. We encourage you to learn about Matariki and to think about ways you take a leadership role with others in your organisation to acknowledge Matariki.

The appearance of Matariki in the morning sky in mid-winter marks the Māori New Year, or Te Mātahi o te Tau. The arrival of Matariki is a sign for people to gather, to honour the dead, celebrate the present and plan for the future. Hence the phrase ‘Matariki hunga nui’ meaning the many people of Matariki.

Our purpose is to increase the number and diversity of women leading for Aotearoa. We can’t achieve this alone; we love learning about and sharing initiatives that share the same kaupapa.

We recommend this women’s leadership series created by Jess Stuart. It is a chance to hear from 14 inspirational female leaders, and leadership experts from all over New Zealand share their secrets to success.

The interviews are recorded and available for purchase, with all profits going to women's charities - The Aunties and The Wellington Homeless Women's Trust.

"It has been an eye opener and fantastic journey and Jayne and Sue are brilliant facilitators. The best part is that I have got to know some amazing women from all over New Zealand that I never would have connected with if it was not for Career Camp! Super grateful ⭐️ I can’t recommend this program enough."
